A Sonnet for Neil Armstrong

For a long time

The moon was far away.

Then you climbed a ladder

Made of the wills of men

And stood there.

For the first time we looked back at ourselves

And understood there are no boundaries.

And so things changed, but then became the same.

Greed and old men redrew the boundaries

And costed romance off the balance sheet.

Bigotry, selfishness, accountancy,

Join hands to ration life in smaller portions.

Still, looking back and forward from your moon,

We see no boundaries.
