Real Men: a sonnet

While you’re watching all  the media coverage of perfectly honed bodies and ferociously focussed wills, here’s a sonnet to celebrate real men. I’m glad there are so many great men in my life, and I hope you have some in yours.

Real men don’t

Yell, scare, hit, hate,

Bully, rage or dominate,

Ask too much or love too late:

Real men don’t.

Real men do

Show their feelings, play along,

Say “I’m sorry” when they’re wrong,

Understand how to be strong:

Real men do.

Real men will

Go past anger, fear and pain,

Speak their truth when all seems vain,

Win our love and trust again.
