In the past week, we’ve lost three great animators, including one of anime’s few authentic genii. But in among tweets about socks and Carnival, the unrelenting persistence of life has provided some unexpected gifts.

Yonkoma – short manga strips – are hugely popular in Japan, though many of the most successful are unheard-of elsewhere. Even the mighty Sazae-San is outrun by Kobo-chan and Sanwari-kun.
